Nelson Mandela

They say he’s lost his final battle
How come I can hear the victory cry
The shout’s gone up, the battle’s won
He’s moved from dying to life on high
He fought the hate with love, not guns
He changed himself to change the world
He freed himself from a bitter mind
And forgave as freedom now unfurled
He rose from prison to president
And took a country with him too
He threw off the chains of bitterness
To show what love could really do
Twenty seven years of pain
And all of it unjust
He rose above it all to be
A man nations now could trust
A symbol of a hard hard fight
A symbol of their hope
A man to change a nations plight
A man to lead them home
They say he’s lost his final battle
But the victory cry is loud
God has called the victor home
Let South Africa be proud
And let them build on what has been
Let not his life have been in vain
May all join, as one, in grief
And let Mandela’s legacy now reign.
