If we live our lives expecting everything to work out perfectly, if we imagine each day running smoothly according to our plans, then all we are doing is fooling ourselves. So when things go wrong or suffering comes we can’t understand it. We ask “Why me?” We ask “Why do bad things happen?” We don’t live with the right expectations. We don’t drop an egg and ask why it smashes, we don’t put something in the freezer and then puzzle over why it got cold. God tells us that we live in a fallen and broken world. He tells us that we have separated ourselves from His protecting and loving arms. We can no longer expect to live in a perfect world where everything goes the way we want it to. It is foolishness to live with that expectation. In Fact it is only through the grace and mercy of God that we experience any good at all. However, there is hope and there is good news. God also tells us that we are not made for this place with all its pain, suffering and broken plans – we are simply passing through. We are made for heaven and Jesus is preparing us a place should we choose to take Him up on the offer.
