Inspiring Thoughts Number 5
Proverbs 9: 10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
The fear of the Lord is not a very comfortable idea for most Christians and we tend to dilute it down to respect or reverence. However, it says fear and I believe it to mean fear. I believe that it is only when we start with a fear of God that we can truly understand His incredible love, grace, mercy, compassion, kindness and goodness. God is a God who is someone of whom we should be scared. After all He is All Powerful, All Mighty, Ever Present, All Knowing, He is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings, there is no-one above Him and yet He chooses not to use that power and that position against us. Are you telling me that if you met the King of Kings face to face you wouldn’t be scared? Fear is a good place to start, it keeps us humble, it helps us see things with the right perspective, it gives us the beginning of wisdom. With fear as our starting place it allows God, as he did countless times in the Bible to draw us near and tell us not to be afraid for He is Good News to all people.
