Inspiring Thoughts Number 3

Proverbs 9: 10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. The fear of the Lord is not a very comfortable idea for most Christians, and we tend to dilute it down to respect or reverence. However, it says fear, and I believe it to mean fear. I believe that only when we start with a fear of God can we truly understand His incredible love, grace, mercy, compassion, kindness, and goodness. God is a God who is someone of whom we should be scared. After all, He is All-Powerful, All-Mighty, Ever-Present, All-Knowing, He is the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings, there is no one above Him, yet He chooses not to use that power and that position against us. Are you telling me that you wouldn’t be scared if you met the King of Kings face to face? Fear is an excellent place to start; it keeps us humble, helps us see things with the right perspective, and gives us the beginning of wisdom. With fear as our starting place, it allows God, as he did countless times in the Bible, to draw us near and tell us not to be afraid, for He is Good News to all people.
